Reflective Vistas: Landscapes you don’t have to leave.

  • Recently my family took a short trip to the Oregon Coast for some R&R.  Each day of the trip I planned to paint, and each day, something came up that interfered with my plans.  It was cold and windy most of the time.. so we really didn't do the beach, except for the first evening... when we stopped to enjoy the sunset at Pacific City Beach.  It was our sons first experience of the beach and it was wonderful.  This painting was created from one of the many photos I took as the sun slowly sank into the ocean.
  • Recently three bucks, all with impressive velvet-encased antlers, trotted out of the field behind our home.  They were a happy trio of bachelors for the time being, but I anticipated gallant battles as soon as that velvet came off.  This painting, with the Wallowa Mountains in the background is a reminder of that encounter.

  • Wallowa Lake is a beautiful and iconic location, which we are privileged to enjoy regularly.  The stunning sunrise and sunsets in Wallowa county, and our enjoyment of the lake inspired this painting.  I was attempting to paint this at the lake... but had to retire to the studio due to rain!
  • Deer Grove

Shortly after leaving Enterprise, Oregon when headed toward La Grande on the left side of the road is a grove of trees that always catches my eye. It is not big, and there is nothing about it that should make it stand out from any other similar grove of trees. But I always look at it... wondering what might live there. This painting shows my imagination of who lives there.
