Crystal began by drawing… her early works featured a mixed media approach that used colored pencils (Prismacolor) and colored felt tip pens.  A good example of these early works is this mountain lion drawing.

In college, Crystal was challenged by a professor (Thank you Marj Weichal!) to try adding watercolor backgrounds to her images.  Several brush strokes later… and many of the images that Crystal paints are predominately watercolor.

Crystal also works in acrylics, which are especially useful for painting murals and gallery wrapped canvases.  Crystal enjoys the vibrant colors acrylics provide.   Oil paints have also been on her pallet, as they are well suited for work on metal.  The subtle blending abilities of oils – together with a longer working time, make oil paints the media of choice on some projects.
